I’ve got the time but the time don’t pay

So, I’m in love with a few things lately. Including but not limited to the following bulleted — but not numbered — list. (At any rate, the first thing listed is always the most important, so yes I’m a suck, shut up.) Miklos The incredible spring-like weather, in spring for once Story ideas (I’ve got a few; must sit down and hash something out) A weekend where I only have to work once Birthday in a week Excitement for Hungary is building on a daily… Continue reading

Mistaking Satellites for Stars

I am very, very slowly recovering from the Thrush Hermit show last night at Lee’s Palace. The best word to sum that experience up is WOW. They played every song I wanted to hear, and they blew the roof, the walls, the doors, andthe pants right off that place. On our failed attempt to get Green P parking behind the place, we saw the guys just hanging out beside their van. Got to love how down-to-earth they are. We also stopped at Book City. I’ve… Continue reading

The Crazy Cat Lady

I’m reading all about introducing cats to each other today. Mixi and Jane pretty much hate each other, and Rico has never been a fan of other cats. So upon this upcoming merge, we may find ourselves in a pretty pickle. Oh, kitties. I need a farm. Going to conduct a social experiment based on this site. I will be recording every transaction I witness. Good info here too. This is good too, even though it’s not about housing cats in any way. Watch about… Continue reading

Bring on the Blue Sky

If you want to hear a podcast interview of a guy who reminded me a lot of Bob Dylan long before he even started talking about Bob Dylan in this interview, give this a listen. I like Jason Collett as a musician, but trust me: No one who grew up in Bramalea is going to have an accent like that. Anyway, he really is an enjoyable Canadian musician when he’s not talking. Midnight Vulture

Why am I writing at 1:19am? I felt it necessary to publicly declare my love for this t-shirt I bought yesterday. The jeans are really good too. I just revised the second sentence for ‘wordiness’ purposes. You can tell I’ve had the grammar-check on while writing this report, as it’s becoming inherent that I fix, fix, fix. Although three “fix”es in a sentence is ‘wordy’ in and of itself. Little known fact: I wouldn’t mind if I died while listening to “Hook” by Blues Traveler.… Continue reading

Songs & Stories: This Week

Mean Mad Margaret – Spoon Sent this to my nana, whose name is Margaret, and who oddly enough has always told us to “kill them with kindness”. (Ahh advice never heeded.) Odder still that my awesome nana uses email and MSN, I’d say. Before You Leave – Joel Plaskett/Thrush Hermit I find it really difficult to get over how cool the guitar sounds in this. Also, there’s a pretty cool video of Joel playing it on an acoustic while kind of tipsy (and on the… Continue reading

I’m a strong dead man who’s only looking out for himself

Well, I just heard it on the old cabbagey-smelling bus ride home and decided. The song to start springtime is unofficially: Tuff Ghost by the Unicorns I need a workplace Health & Safety related topic to write a paper on! I’ve got no idea what to write about, and I need something with kind of a narrow scope… the kind of narrow that still fits into five (5) pages worth of writing. Suggestions, plz. Off to enjoy spring! Tunez

So far, the Arkells are up there for Nikki’s Official Tunes of End-of-Winter/Beginning-0f-Spring 2009. They kind of have an element of bland to them though, so I’m looking for alternatives. Past bands of springtimes past include: Local Rabbits, Peter Elkas, (both remind me of walking down Bathurst and Bloor to go to work) Sloan, (driving in springtime) The Unicorns, (non committal springtime grooves) and the White Stripes (way back in 2000 or so when I bought my first ever digital camera, now that I think… Continue reading
