Elect Phillip Phillips 2012

Skip this post if you’re not into the reality shows, kids. Some might say I have a few too many awful television guilty pleasures.  The important part is that they are all seasonal competition shows, so I view them about once a week for a couple months at a time and it’s not interfering with exercise and reading, my two other big hobbies (of the year so far).  Okay, enough justification. I said it last year.  If they vote this guy off, I will never… Continue reading

Canada Loves Me!

I’m mulling over the ol’ Google Analytics (which by the way, is inferior in every way to my old methods, namely Sitemeter and Clicky), and I can’t help but notice the difference between traffic say, 7 years ago, and now on my blogs.  Sure, it’s a different URL, I am far less interactive on the ol’ internets (except on Facebook and Twitter, where I nearly never link to my blog entries, hrm – potential problem on my part).  There was a time when, even without… Continue reading

‘LEAP’ of Faith… You get it.

I did it!  I posted on the Leap Day! Let me take this useless opportunity of a blog post to say, oh great, Woody Harrelson is in the Hunger Games movie?  Eh, I guess it makes sense. Also, using intelligence of the many I know who have had their cars broken into lately, I think we may finally have cracked a nut in this burglar case.  Which, you know, would normally be the job of the police but let’s be realistic, I don’t live in… Continue reading

Rarr

One of my favourite animals, the Amur leopard, is (in captivity, at least) making some headway in population restoration. These cats in the wild have a population of about 30-35 known.  I’ve been lucky enough to see one in captivity at a local zoo; despite people’s conflicting thoughts on zoos, I’d be sad if they died out before I ever got to see one, and they’re clearly flourishing better in captivity than in the wild.  Just a few years ago with the release of the… Continue reading

Weekend

I can see why Saturdays are so popular.  So far today we’ve gone to lunch at a Chinese buffet to listen to toilet stories from the table next to us, spent money on practical and necessary items, vacuumed and, yes sir, I am planning to do some laundry and make a lasagna soon. It’s so nice not to know you.

Surround yourself with only positive and/or realistic people.  It makes an enormous impact.  If there are consistently negative and selfish people, hold on to the good memories (if any) and let those people go.  It’s not worth it to drag along a constant anchor of loathing.  Just be around the good folks, help each other through the bad times and always make a mental note when you get to enjoy the good times.   And the indifferent times.  Those are good too. The Hunt is On

Yesterday on our drive around the entire universe, we managed to see a red-tailed hawk in hunting mode.  It was the first time either of us had seen this.  It didn’t manage to catch any of these birds, but we did see one on the other side of the region a few hours later who landed on the ground in a field and snatched something up in his clutches.  Very cool.  Hawks were everywhere yesterday.
