Dragonfly Cannibalism

I’ve posted about this before, but I just felt like bringing it up again. This happened a few years ago at my family’s cottage: The guy on the bottom is the living dragonfly. This unlucky specimen is the head of the guy on top, whose mouth continued to move the whole time. Yet another thing I had never known could happen (both the cannibalism and the disembodied head moving for an hour or two afterward), discovered up north. Have you ever seen something like this? … Continue reading

Bears in a Tree

Here are the bears we saw cooling off in a tree on a very hot day a few weeks ago near Grundy Lake. Of course, the first time I forgot my camera at the cottage before a boat ride was the first time I ever saw a baby bear peeking out of the bushes along the lake. Lesson learned. NEVER. LEAVE. CAMERA.   Share the post “Bears in a Tree” FacebookXShare… Continue reading

Weird

It turned out of course as many know by now that the body found up north from my last post was that of Shana Carter, missing since December 2010 from her Grimsby residence.  Everything about this story is a little too close to home, geographically, for me.  It’s scary for us smaller-town people to realize this stuff happens outside of the bigger cities.  It’s equally scary to think that we drove past and looked into that little nook of the woods a hundred times over … Continue reading

Is that real ketchup? Yep!

I’m normally a summer person, but it’s going to be mid-temp today and I actually don’t mind it.  Yesterday I remembered how much I loved a hot coffee instead of just liked it as a morning routine, and today it actually motivated me to wake up before 8am on my first day of vacation.  Shit!  It’s so good! You ever type something and at the same time someone else says that same thing? I don’t. Why is there an actually ‘cut’-looking version of the Koodo … Continue reading

It’s so different out here

So we’re back from up north. What a great place, where the only thing you’re blowing a tonne of money on is gasoline. It’s nice not to be surrounded by products and crazy people, but rather by trees and crazy people you enjoy spending time with. Adding pictures to Flickr periodically for the next day or two. There is nothing like a nice hike to simultaneously clear your mind and fill it with wonder. What a good trip. Back to grumbling when I wake up. … Continue reading

"Finding happiness in failure": The opposite of "talking shit about a pretty sunset."

Oh hi. If you’ve just found me now, well I sure am good at keeping secrets. Or, as it were, at eventually disclosing them. Yet another thing I’m good at is failing miserably at interviewing for jobs. I also succeed at accepting the rejection calls the HR directors (or their lackeys) make to me shortly after. I’ve got to hand it to them; at least they’re prompt with their rejection. Which reminds me, I’ve got an interview tomorrow. And I’m learning things. You know, just … Continue reading
