Throwback Monday: DIY Pallet Headboard

DIY headboard progress

Wading through some older entries (because having a toddler puts a bit of a damper on the upcycling time) and having fun reliving the olden days that I hope to soon revisit. Wanted to point out that our DIY pallet headboard has held up wonderfully! The only thing I’d do differently is sand the very top of it completely smooth before staining to make it easier to dust. And maybe I’d seal it, if I could find one that wasn’t too glossy. It’s a great time of year … Continue reading

DIY: Plastic bag holder

Plastic bag holder/dispenser

Hi! I’m here! It took 3 weeks, but we now have internet. It’s cellular and has upload and download limits from 2002 but, luckily, Bell Fibe internet is coming to our street. We’ll be kissing these cellular butts goodbye soon, with any luck, and for a ridiculous cancellation fee that — unfortunately — will be totally worth it. Yesterday morning after the husband and son headed off to the farmer’s market, I had some strange inspiration. Since moving in, plastic bags have had no place. (This is true in our environment, too, which is why … Continue reading

Wow! Old Dresser to DIY Vintage Bench Pinned 2000 times!

DIY vintage bench from old dresser

Awoke to see that our old beat-up dresser to pretty vintage bench post has reached 2000 pins on Pinterest! UPDATE: 3000+ a week and a half later! :O Thank you thank you thank you! That makes me very happy! And to think we found it for free on the side of the road. Best! Soon I want to make a simple upholstered bench out of an old coffee table we have for the foot of the bed or even for our small entryway. More on that after… And … Continue reading

DIY rustic end table for less than $10!

After we brought the Christmas tree out a couple weeks ago, we needed to rearrange (and remove) some of the furniture. Wouldn’t have to, really, but Junior’s tendency to eat everything in sight means we still need to crate train him a while longer. We have two of these simple LACK tables from Ikea. When the tree came back, we had to put one of them away, and replace our loveseat with an armchair we put away when Junior’s crate came along. Needless to say, it … Continue reading

DIY: How to Make a Beautiful Pallet Headboard for Under $30

upcycled pallet project

Well, I recruited the husband for yet another DIY. We’ve had our beautiful headboard for a week now, and I’m in love. (With husband, yes, but also — the resulting headboard.) Money-saving tip: Someone you know is going to have a spare everything when it comes to tools and supplies. Ask around. You will save so much money just by using things people weren’t using at the moment. They’ll probably be happy to let you use their stuff, too. Between Miklos’s dad, his brother, and … Continue reading

DIY: From Old Dresser to Pretty Vintage Bench

Holy cow! Remember when I said we were going to do a DIY using an old dresser we found on the side of the road? No? Me neither, almost. Except that it’s been in the basement all summer long (oops), staring and waiting for us to hop to it. Hey, we got married this year. As it turns out, that kept us busy this spring. Well, this past weekend we got to it. And as you can imagine from the blog title, we didn’t just … Continue reading

Spooky

I want walls filled with art. If anyone would like to donate walls filled with art, or even simply art for me to fill my current walls with, contact me and we will arrange for this.  Everything I see on Etsy, I want.  And then there’s the furniture part – everything I see on the IKEA site, I want. It’s a big problem. I wonder if I tried to paint if I’d know how now.  A few years ago, I gave it a shot and … Continue reading

Less Than Incredible Tales from Next-door

We’ve moved in to our new house and become observers of unusual phenomena.  From the strange pipe sticking out of the one neighbour’s house that at irregular intervals splashes out a tonne of water into their front yard from who-knows-where, to the older gal who orders a cab at least once a day only to sit in her driveway in it for 15-20 minutes, to the massive heaps of dog poo lying in the driveway of the same lady’s driveway where they keep their 3 … Continue reading

Fish n Chips n Vinegar… Pepper Pepper Pepper, Salt.

I got this book for about $10 the other day at Coles. I realize I’m becoming the two-jobbed housewife, but what a great resource! There are like a bazillion tips on ways to use salt, vinegar, lemons, and baking soda for just about everything around the house; things you’d expect, and also neat tricks like making a pet behaviour-modifying spray out of one part vinegar and one part water. So far, so good. Another thing I picked up was a travel journal. I can’t wait … Continue reading

Things That Are Stupid #12983

My nana forwarded this email on to me today: If I happened to show up on your door step crying, Would you Care? If I called you and asked you to pick me up because something Happened, Would you come? If I needed a shoulder to cry on, Would you give me Yours? Do you know what the relationship is between your two eyes? They blink together, they move together, they cry together, They see things together and they sleep together, BUT THEY NEVER SEE … Continue reading
