Up/Down

Just clicking through my bookmarks at random, you know, since I have time to do that now, and I found this: Mark Twain’s Top 9 Tips for Living a Kick-Ass Life. Pretty uplifting! And, you know, I hate to kick you down when you’re up by getting all serious, but there are some powerful photos here. Don’t click if you can’t stand to look at starving, broken-down souls. There’s a whole other world out there that you and I are nowhere near familiar with. What… Continue reading

Party Time

Life is getting expensive. I’m considering bringing grocery shopping back in style again instead of eating at restaurants and having chocolate for breakfast every day. (Not every day…) School’s out and we’re doing all sorts of crazy things! Like going out again… for dinner. Share the post “Party Time” FacebookPinterestShare…Email Continue reading

Cue joyful profanity!

I’m done, done, done! I finished the last bit of academic hell I had to today, and I am really friggin’ done, I think! Unless the woman I emailed it to emails me back and tells me I f’d everything up. In which case I will switch from dancing around my room like a monkey to storming around town like an angry gorilla, because that’s NOT FAIR! Twenty pages of hell, finished. Anyway, what a weight off my back. I need confirmation that what I’ve… Continue reading

The Smell & the Wolverine

Nik says: SPEAKING of smell sweet jesus that guy at X-Men Wolverine tonight? fuck my life! this guy looked like he was straight out of a Dungeons and Dragons matchdan says: Who would think a comic book guy would have B.O.?!Nik says: HAD A GIRLFRIEND, so there’s officially now hope for EVERYBODY and every time a laugh was had, a foul odour of sweaty feet, b.o., and general filth would waft its awful way in our direction it got to the point where we bought… Continue reading

Up at 5:30am, drive home from Welland, drive back to Welland upon mother’s request, stress out a while over lack of laundry done, lunch, wedding, Ellie tribute, sleep, market, nap, drive, movie night at my second home, sleep, lunch, work, photo run to Hamilton with Miklos, hometime. I’m forgetting a lot. It’s been a busy weekend (especially that nap part). Listen, I’m going to bed. More tomorrow. Share the post “” FacebookPinterestShare…Email Continue reading

All this carp talk has given me CARP-al tunnel.

Okay that’s the last carp title for the day, for a little while.  Or until tomorrow. Speaking of:  Tomorrow is a busy day.  If you’re in the Niagara area, stop by Isaac’s pub at Brock University after 7pm to support the Ellie Burbidge Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser Tribute.  (That’s a lot of words.  Ellie would’ve enjoyed how verbose that event title was.)  Tonnes of prizes to be won!  Admission’s $10 for a very good cause. It’s that, and a wedding for me tomorrow!  Well, not me.… Continue reading

Carpus Maximus

I was standing at the gas pump at 7-Eleven just now, noticing my transaction was only up to about $3 when I’d been standing there for about as many minutes. An old man staggered out of the store and walked toward his car, looking at me rather suspiciously, as if to want to ask something. I said to him, “Did you find the pump was really slow?” Suddenly, gas station chaos ensued. Voices from behind every pump started cursing the crawling rate of gasoline flow.… Continue reading

Carp(e) Diem

The other night I dreamed that I stored Rico in a bag full of water with my fish to transport him to another house. When I arrived at that place, Rico was a black cat and he was… not so much alive anymore. Why is logic always so flawed in dreams? Last night I think I must’ve dreamed he was a giant, because when I walked past the living room today, I noticed him lounging on the couch and thought, “Hey, you look different than… Continue reading

Naked, and carping along

Q: Nikki, wherever did you come up with the brilliant domain name NakedCarp.com?A: Well, the dot-com boom began just over a decade ago when… oh, you mean the actual name bit. I was thinking about this the other night, and I can’t quite remember. All I know is we were driving along on Moyer and whichever road becomes East Main Street at the very edge of Niagara Falls and Welland, and I somehow put those two words together and decided I was bored of my… Continue reading

School only feels like it’s out when you’re 8 and it’s summertime.

It feels good to be back to the ‘writer’ roots. When your proposed backup plan (in my case, Business Admin) kind of takes over your life for three years, it’s easy to lose sight of what you really wanted. I love you, writing. I always have. Come back to me. Writers need readers. Readers need eyes. What novel insight. No pun intended. All I know is, school’s done, this report I’m writing is almost finished, which means school will really be done, and my knees… Continue reading
